Maughan lays out his credentials amid controversy

During an update on procurement for Mayo County Council, the authority’s procurement officer John Maughan laid out his credentials and qualifications at the June meeting of the council, following on from criticism of him at a previous meeting. Maughan told the meeting, “I’ve been working in procurement for five years and I don’t set the prices. My role is to oversee the information and ensure we have fair and honest competitions for all.” He went on to say that, “ I applied through an open competition for the job. I’ve a degree in economics and political science, I was involved in procurement in the army in my time there and I’ve undertaken a certificate in procurement and a diploma in emergency planning.”
